Paula Downey is president and chief executive officer of CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer. She joined CSAA Insurance Group and its AAA club affiliate, AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah, as the chief financial officer in 2000. Ms. Downey was promoted to chief operations officer in 2003, president in 2005 and president and CEO in 2010. Previously, Ms. Downey had a career with the Auto Club Group in Dearborn, Michigan.
Ms. Downey serves on the boards of CSAA Insurance Group, AAA Club Partners, the Bay Area Council, and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI). She is a Governance Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors and previously was on the boards of BRE Properties, Inc., Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, Leadership California, Detroit Urban League, Michigan Metro Girl Scout Council, and the Michigan Economic and Environmental Roundtable.
She was named a 2017 Elite Women by Insurance Business America magazine, and in 2014 was named Humanitarian CEO of the Year by the American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter, in honor of her significant contributions to the Bay Area community. She has also been repeatedly recognized as one of the Bay Area’s Most Influential Women in Business by the San Francisco Business Times. In 2013, the publication named her one of the region’s ‘Most Admired CEOs’, specifically recognizing her for outstanding corporate citizenship. In May 2010, Ms. Downey accepted the Corporate Leader Award for the AAA club from Leadership California.
Ms. Downey earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Michigan, Dearborn, and her MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Mr. Acevedo leads the company’s technology organization, including teams responsible for consumer-and agent-facing digital experiences, data and analytics platforms, core application systems (policy, claims, financial and HR), information security and foundational infrastructure. He joined CSAA Insurance Group in 2011 and has served in executive leadership roles for digital, data, telematics, and business architecture. Prior to that, Mr. Acevedo held product and marketing leadership positions at startup and established technology companies – including BMC Software, ITM Software, Sun Microsystems and Terraspring – developing a range of enterprise software and cloud infrastructure solutions. Mr. Acevedo started his career as a systems engineer in the aerospace industry at GE, where he also completed the Edison Engineering Development Program and earned his master’s in electrical engineering at Syracuse University. He also has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and an MBA from Stanford University.
Ms. Andel leads the company's efforts in corporate culture, public affairs and communications; enterprise program management; charitable programs; talent management and leadership development; employee benefits, such as wellness, recognition and pension programs; diversity and inclusion; real estate; and sustainability. She serves on the board of Sonoma Land Trust and has served on the board of the Bay Area chapter of the American Red Cross. She has been recognized with the Industry Leader Award by the Professional Business Women of California and the Outstanding Executive Award from leadership development firm Linkage. Ms. Andel is a champion of the company's volunteer and diversity programs and has been honored by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Bay Area's Most Influential Women in Business. Ms. Andel earned a degree in English from San Francisco State University.
Ms. Brackeen leads the company’s strategic planning and innovation acceleration, which is focused on sustaining and disruptive innovation capabilities as well as investment and business development opportunities. She has more than 25 years of experience and leadership at innovative high-tech companies including Apple, Sun and eBay, and most recently served as the global head of innovation at Citigroup. She is also a director and past chair of the Silicon Valley Forum Board of Directors, has been an advisor to the Astia Technology Committee since 2008, and was an advisor on the corporate board of the National Venture Capital Association. Ms. Brackeen earned a degree in American Studies from Stanford University and has completed executive programs at the Northwestern Kellogg School of Management, INSEAD and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Ms. Goldstein leads all aspects of marketing, including digital marketing, brand management, marketing analytics, market research, customer-experience management, data strategy, and direct marketing. She was previously vice president of marketing channels and partners for CSAA Insurance Group, where she developed new marketing and analytics capabilities and led integrated marketing plans to support insurance growth for AAA club partners. Prior to joining CSAA Insurance Group, Ms. Goldstein had a 17-year career with Citigroup, where she held various senior executive marketing positions. She has a bachelor’s degree from Boston University and an MBA from Fordham University. She serves as president of the board of directors for Berkeley Humane.
Mr. McCaffrey leads the company’s finance division and is responsible for accounting, financial planning and analysis, audit, investments, tax, enterprise risk management, and sourcing. Before joining the company in 2016, he served as the executive vice president, CFO and treasurer at Grange Insurance. Mr. McCaffrey earned his MBA with an accounting concentration and B.S. in finance at the University of Akron. His certifications include certified public accountant, certified internal auditor, chartered property casualty underwriter, associate in risk management, and associate in reinsurance, and he is a member of the Insurance Information Institute board of directors. He is actively involved in the non-profit community, having been recognized in the 2017 Junior Achievement Hall of Fame, and previously serving as a board member for Flying Horse Farms, an organization that provides transforming experiences for children with serious illnesses, and the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio, an organization that provides free furniture to families in need.
Mr. Valliere leads the company’s claims, service, product management, agency support and actuarial teams. He has spent the last 14 years with AAA and CSAA Insurance Group developing a broad background of executive level experience in claims, policyholder service, underwriting, training, technology transformations and merger/acquisitions. Prior to joining the company in 2004, he was senior assistant vice president with Amica Mutual Insurance Company within their claims executive department. He currently serves on the J.D. Power Insurance Advisory Board. Mr. Valliere has a BS degree with a major in Accounting from University of Connecticut.
Mr. Zukerman provides legal, regulatory and compliance oversight and guidance for the company and serves as legal advisor to the board of directors, the CEO and other senior executives. Prior to joining CSAA Insurance Group, he was a senior executive with GeoVera Holdings, Critical Path, Sega and Netopia. Mr. Zukerman was named 2017 Corporate Counsel of the Year by the San Francisco Business Times, and has been a frequent speaker at various technology, intellectual property and software law seminars. For several years he was a guest lecturer on law and entrepreneurship at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Mr. Zukerman also serves on the board of Keep Tahoe Blue, The League to Save Lake Tahoe. He earned his law degree at the Washington College of Law at American University and his BA at the University of California at Berkeley.
