CSAA Insurance Group Vice President Named Chair of Leading Insurance Industry Organization


WALNUT CREEK, Calif., March 26, 2014 – John Xu, vice president of actuarial for CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, has been elected chair of the board of directors of the Alexandria, Va.-based Highway Data Loss Institute.

The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) is an affiliate of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It is a nonprofit research organization that publishes insurance loss statistics on most car, SUV, pickup truck and motorcycle models on U.S. roads. Those results are based on data collected from companies that represent about 80% of the nation’s auto insurance market, and the organization’s database is the largest of its type in the world.

CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, is a long-standing supporter of HLDI and its research into how technology can improve vehicle safety. CSAA Insurance Group offers automobile, homeowners and other personal lines of insurance to AAA members through partnerships with AAA clubs.

“Ever-changing safety technology makes the research role that HLDI plays a critical one,” Xu says. “I’m excited to work with my fellow HLDI Board members to further the crucial work of this organization.”

Xu succeeds Michael Doerfler, product development manager, Progressive Insurance, who served as chairman in 2013.
