For more than 90 years, our company has had an “A” or better rating from A.M. Best, the insurance industry's most respected ratings agency. We are a coast-to-coast organization serving more than 17 million AAA members. The company wrote $3.8 billion in premiums in 2017. Headquartered in Walnut Creek, CA, we have more than 3,800 employees located primarily in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Jersey, and Oklahoma. Our Story
1900 The Automobile Club of California is founded at San Francisco's Cliff House. The club's first goal is to open Golden Gate Park to automobiles. The American Automobile Association (AAA) is officially formed two years later in Chicago.
1907 California State Automobile Association (CSAA) is incorporated as an offshoot of the Automobile Club of California. Its stated mission is “Good Roads and Just Legislation.”
1914 The Inter-Insurance Bureau (our historic predecessor) is created to offer auto insurance policies to Members.
1974 Company begins offering homeowners insurance to Members.
1998 Company begins offering life insurance to Members.
1999 Company acquires Western United Insurance Company.
2000 CSAA celebrates its centennial.
  Company begins offering renters insurance to Members.
2001 Company begins selling AAA Auto Insurance in Utah and Nevada through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Western United.
2003 Company begins selling auto and homeowners insurance in Arizona, Oregon, and Idaho.
2004 Company begins covering Members in Colorado and Ohio.
  Teen driver training and discounts are rolled out.
  Motorcycle insurance debuts in California.
2005 Company begins selling insurance in Indiana and Connecticut.
2006 A.M. Best (the insurance industry's top ratings agency) awards us  an "A+" (Superior) financial rating.
  New operations center opens in Glendale, Arizona.
  Company begins covering Members in Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Virginia, Wyoming, New York, and West Virginia.
2007 Reduced insurance rates introduced for hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles in select states.
  Company begins covering Members in Montana.
2009 New LEED Silver certified operations center opens in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
  New LEED Gold certified headquarters building opens in Walnut Creek, California.
2010 The company tests its first usage-based insurance program in Nevada.
2011 We separated from the AAA auto club serving Northern California, Nevada, and Utah. The two organizations continue working together to serve Members in that region.
  The company acquires the AAA Mid-Atlantic Insurance Group, covering Members in Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
2012 Company launches Community Safety Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) funded by us, to improve the safety and security of the communities we serve.
2013 Company transitions name to CSAA Insurance Group.
2014 Company celebrates 100th anniversary of selling insurance.

CSAA Insurance Group sells more than $3 billion in direct premium written annually, with more than 2.6 million policies in force.
2015 All claims are handled on a single claims administration system, providing faster, more efficient service to policyholders.

Company becomes #1 insurer in AAA member households in Oklahoma, joining Northern California and Nevada with that distinction.

MyPolicy electronic site and mobile app allow policyholders to view coverage, pay bills, print ID cards and more.

CSAA Insurance Group named Best Auto Insurer by Insure.com.
2016 Ridesharing endorsement launched to provide more comprehensive insurance coverage for drivers working for Uber, Lyft and similar services.

AAA Shelby in Ohio added to roster of AAA clubs selling our products; our insurance available through clubs in 23 states and Washington, DC.
