Paula Downey is president and chief executive officer of CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer. She joined CSAA Insurance Group and its AAA club affiliate, AAA Northern California, Nevada & Utah, as the chief financial officer in 2000. Ms. Downey was promoted to chief operations officer in 2003, president in 2005 and president and CEO in 2010. Previously, Ms. Downey had a career with the Auto Club Group in Dearborn, Michigan.
Ms. Downey serves on the boards of CSAA Insurance Group, AAA Club Partners, the Bay Area Council, the Insurance Information Institute and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI). She is also a Governance Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors. She previously was a board member for BRE Properties, Inc., the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy and Leadership California, as well as the Detroit Urban League, Michigan Metro Girl Scout Council, and Michigan Economic and Environmental Roundtable.
The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter named Ms. Downey the 2014 Humanitarian CEO of the Year in honor of her significant contributions to the Bay Area community. She has also been repeatedly recognized as one of the Bay Area’s Most Influential Women in Business by the San Francisco Business Times. In 2013, the publication named her one of the region’s ‘Most Admired CEOs’, specifically recognizing her for outstanding corporate citizenship. In May 2010, Ms. Downey accepted the Corporate Leader Award for the AAA club from Leadership California.
Ms. Downey earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Michigan, Dearborn, and her MBA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
Ms. Andel leads the company's efforts in human resources, real estate, enterprise program management, corporate communication, corporate social responsibility, diversity, volunteerism and public relations. She serves on the board of the Community Safety Foundation, funded by CSAA Insurance Group, and has served on the board of the Bay Area chapter of the American Red Cross. She has been recognized with the Industry Leader Award by the Professional Business Women of California and the Outstanding Executive Award from leadership development firm Linkage. Ms. Andel is a champion of the company's volunteer and diversity programs and has been honored by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Bay Area's Most Influential Women in Business. Ms. Andel earned a degree in English from San Francisco State University.
Ms. Brackeen leads the company's innovation acceleration organization, which is focused on strategic planning, both sustaining and disruptive innovation capabilities, and investment and business development opportunities. She has more than 25 years of experience and leadership at innovative high-tech companies including Apple, SUN and eBay, and most recently served as the global head of innovation at Citigroup. She serves as director and past chair of the Silicon Valley Forum Board of Directors, has served as an advisor to the Astia Technology Committee since 2008, and was an advisor on the Corporate Board of the National Venture Capital Association. Ms. Brackeen earned a degree in American Studies from Stanford University and has completed executive programs at the Northwestern Kellogg School of Management, INSEAD and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
J. Paul McCaffrey Jr. leads the company’s finance division and is responsible for accounting, financial planning and analysis, audit, investments, tax, enterprise risk management, and sourcing. Before joining the company in 2016, he served as the executive vice president, CFO and treasurer at Grange Insurance. McCaffrey earned his MBA with an accounting concentration and B.S. in finance at the University of Akron. His certifications include certified public accountant, certified internal auditor, chartered property casualty underwriter, associate in risk management, and associate in reinsurance. He is actively involved in the non-profit community and has served as a board member for Flying Horse Farms, an organization that provides transforming experiences for children with serious illnesses, and the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio, an organization that provides free furniture to families in need.
Mr. Meyer leads the company’s claims, service, product management and underwriting, business architecture and solutions, and actuarial services. Prior to joining the company in 2014, he was the senior personal lines executive at Tower Group and president of its reciprocal exchanges. Mr. Meyer previously worked in various leadership capacities at Allstate, Fireman’s Fund, Progressive and Zurich North America. A graduate of the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, he earned his MBA from the University of Chicago. He currently serves on the board of directors of St. Mary of Providence, which provides residential care and training programs for adults with developmental disabilities.
Mr. O’Connor oversees the company’s analytics, application and communication infrastructures. Prior to joining CSAA Insurance Group, Mr. O’Connor was the general manager for IT Business Management for BMC Software, cofounder of ITM Software, and chief information officer and vice president of information services for Silicon Graphics, Inc. He has also held various IT leadership and management positions within Sun Microsystems and Cullinet Software. Mr. O’Connor has a JD from Suffolk University in Boston and a BS in computer science from Boston College.
Ms. Tomlin leads the company’s digital marketing, brand management, marketing analytics, market research, customer experience management, data strategy, and direct marketing. She previously built and led the company’s direct sales channel and led distribution and agency operations. Prior to joining the company in 2012, Ms. Tomlin was a vice president with Capital One Bank, where she headed commercial banking and local retailing marketing and sponsorships. She serves on the board of Acxiom Corporation and is a supporter of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Society. Repeatedly honored by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Bay Area’s Most Influential Women in Business, she was named to the Forever Influential list in 2016. Ms. Tomlin has a BA from Siena College and an MA from North Carolina State University.
Mr. Zukerman provides legal, regulatory and compliance oversight and guidance for the company and serves as legal advisor to the board of directors, the CEO and other senior executives. Prior to joining CSAA Insurance Group, Mr. Zukerman was a senior executive with GeoVera Holdings, Critical Path, Sega and Netopia. He has been a frequent speaker at various technology, intellectual property and software law seminars. For several years he was a guest lecturer on law and entrepreneurship at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. Mr. Zukerman also serves on the Board of Directors of Keep Tahoe Blue, The League to Save Lake Tahoe. He earned his law degree at the Washington College of Law at American University and his BA at the University of California at Berkeley.
