WALNUT CREEK, Calif., July 27, 2016 – The National Park Service has named CSAA Insurance Group the recipient of the 2016 George and Helen Hartzog Award for Outstanding Volunteer Group Service in the Pacific West Region.
In 2015, CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, received Yosemite’s Hartzog Award for Outstanding Volunteer Group Service for on-going volunteerism in Yosemite National Park. This year, CSAA Insurance Group’s volunteer program was selected as the Hartzog Award recipient for the Pacific West Region – the largest of the National Park Service regions with nearly 60 distinct national parks, monuments and historical sites in California, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada and parts of Montana.
“We are honored to receive this regional award from the National Park Service,” said Roger Hancock, community affairs manager at CSAA Insurance Group. “Our long-standing partnership with the National Parks allows our employees to enjoy the natural beauty of these sites, and also helps to preserve these areas for the enjoyment and education of generations to come.”
The Hartzog Awards recognize individuals and groups that make exceptional contributions of their skills, talents and time to the National Park Service. The awards are named for former National Park Service Director George B. Hartzog, Jr. who began the Volunteers-In-Parks Program in 1970.
CSAA Insurance Group employees receive 24 hours of paid company time off to volunteer each year at various community service events, including cleanup days at Zion, San Francisco Maritime, Yosemite and Grand Canyon National Parks. Last year, 98 percent of CSAA Insurance Group employees volunteered, which is the highest volunteer participation rate in the country for any company with more than 3,000 employees.
CSAA Insurance Group received the Hartzog Award on July 9 during an employee volunteer activity in Yosemite National Park.
