WALNUT CREEK, Calif., December 2, 2016 – CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR certification for its headquarters building in Walnut Creek, California. The ENERGY STAR certification signifies that CSAA Insurance Group’s headquarters meets various strict requirements and performs in the top 25 percent of facilities nationwide for energy efficiency.
“We make very deliberate efforts to conserve energy and promote sustainability, so it is extremely rewarding to receive EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification,” said John Vallor, real estate strategy and services executive at CSAA Insurance Group. “As a company, we are committed to serving AAA members – and part of that includes a commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility.”
Buildings that earn the ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35 percent less energy and release 35 percent less carbon dioxide than similar buildings nationwide. Those with a score of 75 or greater on EPA’s 100-point scale may be eligible for an ENERGY STAR certification. CSAA Insurance Group’s headquarters building – also a Gold-level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) building – received an ENERGY STAR rating of 96 for 2016.
ENERGY STAR was introduced by the EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the ENERGY STAR label is widely recognized by consumers and can be found on products, commercial buildings and industrial buildings across the country.
