CSAA Insurance Group's President and CEO Receives Leadership Award


WALNUT CREEK, Calif., October 27, 2014 – CSAA Insurance Group President and CEO Paula Downey received the 2014 Women in Leadership Award from Insurance Networking News. The award recognizes women who have made a major impact on both their own organizations and the insurance community as a whole, and those who have helped set the standard for the application of technology in the insurance business.

“I am honored that Insurance Networking News has chosen me to receive this award,” said Downey. “Our recent and ongoing technological investments are transforming our company so that we can better serve AAA members in the markets we serve.”

Since joining CSAA Insurance Group as CFO in 2000, Downey has held positions as COO and president and CEO. She is currently spearheading a five-year technology transformation that includes completely new administration systems for auto and homeowner claims, as well as a new policy administration system that replaced eight former legacy systems.

Downey was also the force behind the launch of CSAA Insurance Group’s award-winning Leadership Institute and its Leadership Development Program, designed to cultivate leaders who will keep the company at the forefront of the nation’s insurance industry. This program was recognized as a top-ten leadership development program at the 2014 Leadership 500 Excellence Awards.

In addition to her duties as president and CEO, Downey serves on the boards of the Bay Area Council and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America.

The Women in Leadership Award was presented at the Insurance Networking News’ seventh annual Women in Insurance Leadership Forum, which took place on October 21 at the Intercontinental Chicago Magnificent Mile in Chicago.
