WALNUT CREEK, Calif., July 29, 2015 – CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, is an inaugural partner of the Disaster Ready 365 Program with the American Red Cross of the Bay Area. CSAA Insurance Group’s donation of $100,000 supports lifesaving disaster preparedness and fire safety services in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo and Solano counties.
The Red Cross’ Ready 365 Giving Program funds many of its disaster preparedness programs. One such program, the National Home Fire Campaign, includes smoke alarm installation, fire safety education and home evacuation mapping. Since January, the American Red Cross of the Bay Area has installed nearly 700 smoke alarms throughout the Bay Area.
“As an organization that is strongly committed to increasing public safety in the communities we serve, we are honored to partner with the American Red Cross of the Bay Area to improve fire safety education and prevention,” said Danielle Cagan, corporate communications and public affairs executive, CSAA Insurance Group. “Operating smoke detectors and evacuation plans save lives.”
According to the state fire marshal, there were 372 fatalities and 39,691 homes damaged by residential fires in California from 2010 through 2014. In general, people have three minutes or less to escape a home during a fire, making smoke alarms critical to saving lives.
“Installing smoke alarms cuts the risk of someone dying from a home fire in half,” said Trevor Riggen, Regional CEO, American Red Cross of the Bay Area. “CSAA Insurance Group’s support will help us continue this lifesaving home fire preparedness.”
