Deserving Family Receives Car From CSAA Insurance Group


Vehicle Allows Parents to Receive Medical Care For Daughter

WALNUT CREEK, Calif., December 17, 2014 – The Groebner family of Clayton, California, received a refurbished car over the holidays, which will now help them take their ill daughter to medical specialists. CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, donated the car.

“Our employees have a century-long legacy of helping communities from coast-to-coast,” said CSAA Insurance Group Senior Vice President Michael Randall. “This is our thirteenth year donating a refurbished car to a deserving individual or organization.”

Kathy and John Groebner moved to California from Minnesota to bring their five-year-old daughter, Katie, to Stanford Medical Center to be treated for pulmonary hypertension. Complications arose following a heart and lung transplant in June, requiring Katie to remain hospitalized. Kathy and John drove to visit Katie in the hospital daily, until their car broke down. Without the means to repair the vehicle, the Groebner’s were unable to make the journey.

The car the family received is a 2010 Toyota, Rav 4 and was refurbished by AAA Direct Repair Network shop Mike’s Auto Body Shop on North Broadway in Walnut Creek, California.

“We feel very fortunate to be involved with CSAA Insurance Group and are excited to be able to give back to the community that has supported us for the past 42 years,” said Mike Rose, owner of Mike’s Auto Body. “Every year we get many requests for refurbished vehicles from members of the community. Repairing vehicles is the easy part. Having to decide on recipients is the part that’s hard.”

Mike’s Auto Body’s Benevolence Program is designed to generate good will at the local level while promoting the collision repair industry. The program’s mission is to present refurbished cars to deserving individuals or organizations during the holiday season.
