WALNUT CREEK, Calif., June 20, 2025 – In an effort to support the ongoing recovery of the town and community near Paradise, California, CSAA Insurance Group donated $10,000 to the Rebuild Paradise Foundation’s Gravel Grant program. This initiative is intended to help provide essential materials for establishing a noncombustible home ignition zone around a home’s perimeter.

“The Gravel Grant Program is intended to help homeowners in our community defend their families and their properties from wildfire,” said Jen Goodlin, executive director of the Rebuild Paradise Foundation. “We are grateful to CSAA for this commitment to helping establish critical defensible-space buffers throughout our communities.”

According to CAL FIRE and established wildfire science from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, eliminating combustible materials from within five feet of a home’s immediate perimeter is one the most effective things a homeowner can do to protect a home from wildfire. In addition, it may also help homes qualify for designations such as Firewise and Wildfire Prepared Home.

“We support innovative ideas that protect our customers and our communities by addressing important environmental, social and economic issues,” said Esayas Wureta, head of inclusion, belonging, and community impact for CSAA. “Our donation is intended to facilitate rebuilding, improve resilience, and empower and encourage the ongoing recovery process.”

CSAA is committed to fostering strong, resilient communities through various initiatives, partnerships, and funding opportunities. CSAA’s contribution to the Rebuild Paradise Gravel Grant program is part of an ongoing and innovative effort to help protect communities from wildfire risk. These initiatives include sponsorship of the Rebuild Paradise Foundation’s June fundraiser, as well as forest resilience bonds, the California Wildfire Innovation Fund, a wildfire-resilient landscaping contest, and support for the Wildfire Interdisciplinary Research Center. CSAA also sponsored the Climate Resiliency Challenge, which sought solutions to help frontline communities prevent, prepare for and recover from climate-related disasters, including wildfires.

In addition to the Town of Paradise, the Gravel Grant program is available to homeowners in Butte Creek Canyon, Concow, Magalia and Yankee Hill. For more information, visit www.RebuildParadise.org.
