WALNUT CREEK, Calif., May 27, 2014 – As part of its commitment to its core value of diversity, CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, hosted its first-ever Supplier Diversity in Financial Services Symposium earlier this month.
The symposium brought together women, minority and disabled veteran business enterprises with representatives from CSAA Insurance Group, the Department of Insurance and other insurance providers.
“This event was a model and ‘best practice’ for other insurers looking to build and expand their supplier diversity programs,” explained Chris Shultz, Deputy Commissioner of Community Programs and Policy Initiatives for the California Department of Insurance. “Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones commends CSAA Insurance Group for taking a real leadership role in working to improve the diversity of suppliers utilized by the insurance industry.”
“Diversity is one of our corporate values and suppliers are an extension of our company,” said CSAA Insurance Group Chief Financial Officer Michael Day. “We want our suppliers to be reflective of the communities in which we live, work and play.”
About 30 people attended the event, which included two hours of “match-making” sessions where suppliers met with representatives from different insurance companies. The sessions focused on bringing together representatives from diverse owned companies in the financial services sector with their counterparts in the insurance industry. The symposium marks the first meeting of this type sponsored by the insurance industry.
“This symposium is intended to be the beginning of what we hope will be new relationships between the attendees,” said Day.
