CSAA Insurance Group Honored for Civic Engagement
WALNUT CREEK, Calif., December 9, 2014 – CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA insurer, is being recognized as one of the 50 most community-minded companies in America – the only property and casualty insurance company to be so honored. Created by the Points of Light Foundation and Bloomberg, LP, The Civic 50 is an annual list that identifies and recognizes companies for their commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities where they do business.
“CSAA Insurance Group is honored to be named to the prestigious Civic 50. For 100 years we’ve been providing insurance to AAA members in the markets we serve,” said Paula Downey, CSAA Insurance Group’s president and CEO. “Caring is part of our DNA and our legacy of community service continues to play a vital role in our company’s values and culture today.”
CSAA Insurance Group employees receive 24 hours of paid time off each year to volunteer at places that include food banks, national parks, Habitat for Humanity, and the American Red Cross. The company also provides up to $2,500 in dollar-for-dollar matching gift donations to nonprofits, as well as board service grants to the organizations where our employees serve on the boards of directors.
All corporations with more than $1 billion or more in yearly revenue are eligible to be considered for the annual honor by completing a survey that Points of Light, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting volunteer service, conducts in partnership with Bloomberg L.P.
Developed under the guidance of academic experts from eight leading universities, The Civic 50 evaluates companies on a variety of criteria, including:
- How extensively and strategically resources, such as employee time, in-kind giving, and cash, are applied to community engagement.
- How a company’s community engagement program supports business interests and is integrated into business functions.
- How the social and business impact of a community engagement program is measured.
- How community engagement is encouraged through institutional policies, systems, and incentives.
The Civic 50 was created in 2012 to measure civic engagement and recognize companies that incorporate socially responsible practices and community leadership into their corporate culture. CSAA Insurance Group applied to be considered for the first time this year, since previous eligibility was restricted to corporations that were publicly traded.
CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, offers automobile, homeowners and other personal lines of insurance to AAA members through partnerships with AAA clubs.
