WALNUT CREEK, Calif., March 9, 2015 – CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA Insurer, will once again co-sponsor the 10851 Awards Program in Northern California, along with the California Highway Patrol (CHP). This is the third decade of the company’s involvement.
The statewide award program is named after the California Vehicle Code number for vehicle theft, 10851. Awards are given to officers and sergeants of the CHP or a participating local police force who have, during a 12-month period, achieved one of the following:
“We are proud to be involved in this program because it recognizes the hard work done by law enforcement throughout Northern California,” said David White, CSAA Insurance Group employee who has been involved in this program for 10 years. “Recovering stolen vehicles, and catching those responsible, helps to keep our communities safer.”
“This program supports law enforcement agencies in their ongoing efforts of reducing vehicle theft throughout the state,” said CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow. “Of the 171,036 vehicles stolen in California in 2013, 89 percent were successfully recovered for an estimated value of more than $1 billion. The determination and commitment of the CHP and its allied agencies is part of the reason for the high recovery rate.”
The 10851 award consists of a pin which has been approved for law enforcement officials to wear on their uniforms. An officer or sergeant may be recognized up to 25 times, at which point they receive a gold lifetime achievement pin. In Northern California, the CHP offices in Redding, Eureka, and San Jose offer the awards annually, while those in San Leandro, Fresno, Stockton and Modesto offer them on a periodic basis. CSAA Insurance Group sponsors the program that funds the award events and supplies.
