AAA Home Insurance Wildfire Protection Discounts
Since 2021, AAA Home Insurance has offered discounts for policyholders intended to reward efforts to make their homes and communities safer from wildfires. The introduction of a new wildfire regulation required us to modify our current discount offers.
For AAA Home Insurance policies with an effective date prior to 10/10/2025, these are the discounts available: Fortify Your Residence, Fortify Your Residence Lite, and Fortify Your Community.
For AAA Home Insurance policies with an effective date after 10/10/25 and AAA Rental Property Insurance policies with an effective date after 1/1/2026, please scroll down to the My Home Hardening Discount section.
- “Fortify Your Residence” offers a discount of up to 15%
- “Fortify Your Community” offers a discount of up to 5%
The discounts may be combined for those who qualify. Those who do not qualify for the “Fortify Your Residence” discount, yet still undertake efforts to protect their homes from wildfire, may be eligible for the separate “Fortify Your Residence Lite” discount of up to 5%.

How do I qualify for the Fortify Your Residence Discount (15%)?
A 15% discount may apply for AAA Home Insurance customers with new business or renewal effective dates prior to 10/10/2025 who have ongoing and verified wildfire protection efforts in place, including, but not limited to:
- Defensible space with regular debris removal and maintenance
- Home exterior made with noncombustible materials
- Vents and openings with noncombustible mesh screening
- Roof must be of clay, slate, asphalt fiberglass, or concrete
- Recommended standards for wildfire defense are available from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety
How do I qualify for the Fortify Your Residence Lite discount (5%)?
A 5% discount may apply for AAA Home Insurance customers who do not qualify for the full Fortify Your Residence Discount (15%) but have ongoing and verified partial wildfire protection efforts in place.
What wildfire protection efforts are included in the eligibility criteria for the Fortify Your Residence and Fortify Your Residence Lite discounts?

I’ve reviewed the Fortify Your Residence and Fortify Your Residence Lite criteria and am interested in applying for one of these discounts. What are my next steps to obtain either of the discounts?
To qualify for either discount, criteria must be independently verified by IBHS, a AAA-approved vendor. Visit https://wildfireprepared.org/ to learn more about how to ‘harden’ your structure and create a ‘defensible space’, compare the inspection criteria to your property, and place an order for your inspection.
Fortify Your Community Discount
How do I qualify for the Fortify Your Community Discount (5%)?
A 5% discount may apply for AAA Home Insurance customers who live in a community that is part of a program with active and ongoing wildfire protection efforts in place, including, but not limited to:
- Community defensible space with regular debris removal and maintenance
- Fuel breaks adjacent to the community
- Multiple, easily-accessible community access routes
- Community home-hardening standards, including, but not limited to, the Suburban Wildfire Adaptation Roadmaps from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety.
- Firewise community guidelines
How do I know if my property is in a community where the Fortify Your Community discount would apply?
If your community is part of a Firewise USA site, you may be eligible for the Fortify Your Community discount. Please contact your homeowner’s association (HOA) for additional information if your property is part of a HOA. General Discount Information
Can I qualify for multiple discounts?
Yes. The Fortify Your Community (5%) discount can be combined with either Fortify Your Residence (15%) or Fortify Your Residence Lite (5%).
What are the eligibility criteria based upon?
The criteria used for these discounts are based on recommended standards for wildfire defense from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety.

My Home Hardening Discount
What is the discount?
AAA Home Insurance customers with new business or renewal effective dates 10/10/2025 and later, or AAA Rental Property Insurance customers with an effective date of 1/1/2026 and later are eligible to receive the “My Home Hardening” discount of up to 12.5% off for hardening their homes and communities against wildfires.
What are the eligibility criteria based on?
The discount is based on guidelines from the California Department of Insurance and the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS).
How can I earn the discount?
Any eligible AAA Home Insurance or AAA Rental Property Insurance customer may apply for the discount. Qualifying hardening efforts include fire-resistant vents, multi-pane windows, the removal of flammable materials, and designation as an IBHS Prepared Home, Certified Fire Risk Reduction Community, or Firewise USA Site.
Can I qualify for a portion of the discount?
Yes, the individual discount varies based on the following:

| Enclosed Eaves | 0.5% |
| Fire-Resistant Vents | 0.5% |
| Multipane windows, or functional shutters, which when closed, cover the entire window and do not have openings | 0.5% |
| At least 6 inches of noncombustible vertical clearance at the bottom of the exterior surface of the building, measured from the ground up. | 0.5% |
| IBHS Prepared Home – available if policyholder obtains this designation from IBHS | 1.0% |

Is there a no-cost inspection option to obtain the discounts?
Contact your local fire department, Fire Safe Council, or CAL FIRE to inquire how to find a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) certified inspector and submit this completed form.

Why are there different wildfire discount options available?
My Home Hardening is our new discount option available for new business and renewal AAA Home Insurance policies with effective dates 10/10/25 and later. This is also available for new business and renewal AAA Rental Property Insurance policies with effective dates 1/1/26 and later. This new discount aligns with California state regulations to offer discounts for individual mitigation measures.
Fortify Your Residence, Fortify Your Residence Lite, and Fortify Your Community discounts are our previous discounts available for new business and renewal AAA Home Insurance policies with effective dates prior to 10/10/2025. These discounts will no longer be available for new business or renewal policies with effective dates after 10/10/2025.
